The story

Lucas de Staël found traditional frame-making in the Jura overly complex, and in 2006 he started Undostrial, whose name signals an 'un-industrial' way of making things, with one-piece hinge-free steel frames. In 2012 he launched an eponymous label with more classic shapes, where the novelty lies in the materials. He set up a workshop in an old printing factory in Paris's 19th arrondissement and made it an experimental lab where designers, jewellers and artists build their own tools. Within two years the label had won two Silmo d'Or awards.
