The story
After decades designing eyewear and sports products in Southern California, Jérôme Mage grew tired of profit-first eyewear companies and set up his own label in Los Angeles in 2014. After several years of development, the first collection arrived in spring 2015: just four historically inspired acetate frames, Dealan, Zephirin, Hatfield and Fontainebleau, made in Japan. At a time when thin, minimal frames were in fashion, the brand went the other way with thick, sculpted acetate and small numbered runs. Collaborations with artists' estates, from Dennis Hopper and Hunter S. Thompson to Stanley Kubrick and Johnny Cash, turned the label into a collector's brand.

Jacques Marie Mage worked with designer Haider Ackermann on a limited run of three frames: Balthazar, Gaspard and Melchior. The round Balthazar wraps the brand's acetate in black leather.

The spring sun and optical collection is inspired by David Bowie's 1970s 'lost year' in Los Angeles. New styles include the 1990s-influenced Ryder and the mid-century Kennedy with beta titanium temples.
