An optometrist-designer's frames within frames, laminated by hand in Japan.

The story

After a decade building Kata Eyewear and years designing licensed collections, Kuwahara wanted a line in his own design language. The idea of a frame within a frame came to him in Japan after he saw a seat displayed in a Perspex box. He debuted the eponymous collection at Silmo Paris in 2014 with nine unisex optical styles, all handmade in Japan. Two years later its KAHN model won the Silmo d'Or for best optical frame. 02 People Founder and creative director Blake Kuwahara Los Angeles; fourth-generation Japanese-American Earned a doctorate in optometry from UC Berkeley and became a partner in a Manhattan Beach practice. His design career took in Liz Claiborne and creative-director work at De Rigo.
