The story
Two Belgian opticians, Wim Somers in Antwerp and Patrick Hoet from Bruges, began designing frames in the late 1980s because they found the eyewear on offer too conventional. The name theo is an anagram of Hoet. What began as a private side project, with no aim of becoming a major player, grew into a family company sold through independent opticians in about 50 countries. Hoet set the design direction and Somers built the business, which his sons now run. 02 People Co-founder, business lead Wim Somers 1987 Antwerp optician who co-founded theo with Patrick Hoet and ran its commercial side. He later handed the company to his sons.
